Get Ready to Shoot Yourself, Entry View
The installation Get Ready to Shoot Yourself, 2008-9 is based on a publicity photograph, depicting the aftermath of a shootout in a mirror maze from the Orson Welles film The Lady From Shanghai (1948). The installation consists of a network of paintings, mirrored surfaces, and empty frames, that make direct architectural reference to a traditional mirror maze and pulls the viewer into a dislocating, perceptive experience. I found it fitting when I discovered that the publicity image never actually appeared in the film, and was thus a staged/virtual moment, outside the film’s own fiction.
