I’ll speak to how the paintings and videos in my exhibition fit into the history of projected images from the camera obscura to the film and video projector. I will discuss specific pictorial strategies of using found images that make reference to pop culture, historical events, and collective memory. This will be the last public event for the exhibition, so I hope you are able to make it!
The exhibition Projections focuses on the short period of collaboration between the rock band The Velvet Underground, German singer Nico, and Andy Warhol on their debut album, and within Warhol’s expanded cinema event – The Exploding Plastic Inevitable (EPI) from 1966-67. Through this historical lens, my paintings depict and describe light, image, and color projections on the faces of the band members, and within images of the band’s performances on stage. The EPI is considered a landmark event in the history of projection, in interdisciplinary art, and within shared histories of film, music, and dance.
It’s a hike to Mt. Airy, so I hope some of you consider car-pooling to the discussion. Please let me know if you need a ride. I have room for one more person in my car! If you are not able to come to the talk and discussion, the gallery is open by appointment. The exhibition runs until May 20, 2023. Email Director, Bill Gerhard at bill@facturepresents.com to set up a visit.
Hope to see you soon,
Marcelino
